THIS GUIDE has been prepared to provide the shipping public with contact information for U.S.-flag project carriers. Moving your cargoes on U.S.-flag vessels reduces dependence on foreign countries, provides jobs for Americans and contributes a positive economic benefit to America by enhancing our balance of payments.

PROJECT CARRIERS are involved in US Government-sponsored cargo movements of materials which are used primarily for petro-chemical, power generation and similar infrastructure projects. Heavy-lift and oversized pieces are typical components of such shipments. The cargo movements often are to nontraditional ports and the carriers involved are generally known as "tramp" or project carriers.

GOVERNMENT-IMPELLED CARGOES

US cargo preference laws apply to government-impelled project cargoes. That means that cargo, which is sponsored or guaranteed by the US Government, is subject to these laws. Please contact the office listed below if you have any questions about government-impelled cargoes and the cargo preference laws.
