VISION STATEMENT
Drawing upon the Sacred Circle as the foundation for American Indian/Alaska Native philosophy, Haskell provides higher education to federally recognized tribal members.
As authorized by Congress and in partial fulfillment of treaty and trust obligations, this is accomplished through the provision of tuition-free education, culturally sensitive curricula, innovative services, and a commitment to academic excellence. Our existence and continued growth and success is correlated with how well we provide our students with an education that achieves a holistic balance of their psychological and physical well-being through the development of spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and cultural aspects of life. Our ultimate responsibility is to our students and the Indian Nations.
Haskell's vision is to become a national center for Indian education, research, and cultural programs that increase knowledge and support the educational needs of American Indian/Alaska Natives.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
• Culture:
—American Indian and Alaska Native cultures provide the essential element in the foundation and focus for all of Haskell's programs and services.
—Haskell respects and protects the cultural, intellectual, and spiritual property rights of American Indian and Alaska Native peoples.
• Students:
— Haskell's primary focus shall be the needs of its students.
—A culturally based education increases students' abilities to accomplish their educational goals.
— Students will develop higher levels of confidence, honor, and pride in who they are.
• High-Quality Education:
— Culturally based instructional and student service programs that support sovereignty, self-determination, and self-sufficiency are essential components of a university that serves American Indian/Alaska Native students.
— Haskell offers educational programs that holistically reflect the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical aspects of life.
• Employees:
— Haskell uses principles of management that embrace teamwork within the institution for the delivery of services.
— Haskell demonstrates fairness and consistency in its treatment of employees and in the consideration of employment opportunities for them.
— Haskell recognizes and rewards excellence among employees.
INSTITUTIONAL VALUES

INSTITUTIONAL CODE
Haskell Indian Nations University supports a campus environment in which traditional American Indian/Alaska Native cultural values of respect, cooperation, honesty, and responsibility are modeled by all University employees and students in day-to-day activities, conduct, behavior, and attitudes.
All employees, students and representatives of Haskell Indian Nations University will:
1. Treat all other employees, students and others with respect.
2. Work together to improve and strengthen communications; employee, administrative, and student relations; institutional processes and procedures; and the learning environment of Haskell Indian Nations University.
3. Be truthful in conduct, behavior, and attitudes and trust others to do the same.
4. Be accountable for words, thoughts, and deeds and engage in conduct and behavior which reflect the institutional values of the University.
INSTITUTIONAL GOALS
Culture:
• Establish a committee to develop a protocol appropriate to an American Indian/Alaska Native University that respects and protects cultural, intellectual, and spiritual property rights
• Provide a means to educate employees to integrate culturally sensitive approaches in providing programs and services.
• Provide programs which promote appreciation, support, and preservation of American Indian/Alaska Native cultures.
• Provide culturally sensitive leadership to local, regional, and national communities.
Students:
• Implement Haskell's comprehensive program for student assessment.
• Increase faculty, staff, programs, services, and facilities to meet projected increases and changes in the demographic composition of student enrollments.
• Develop a comprehensive program for increasing student success.
High-Quality Education:
• Develop associate degrees to prepare students for careers or for matriculation to baccalaureate programs.
• Strengthen existing associate degrees to prepare students for careers or for matriculation to baccalaureate programs.
• Plan additional degree options in Education.
• Develop baccalaureates in Business, Environmental Science, and Native Studies.
• Strengthen academic research.
• Initiate planning for graduate programs.
Employees:
• Implement a university personnel system.
• Implement a comprehensive human resource development plan.
• Increase the use of teams in improving processes for the delivery of services.
• Allocate monies for recognition of excellence among all employees.
Resources and Infrastructure:
• Improve communication and dissemination of information.
• Support a campus environment which combats substance abuse and promotes healthy life styles.
• Strengthen standards for all programs.
• Significantly increase library holdings in order to support associate degree transferability and baccalaureate degree development.
• Support the modernization of Haskell's computer environment.
• Update the Facilities Master Plan.
• Schedule equipment maintenance, replacement, and upgrading.
• Develop standards which protect and promote campus aesthetics.
• Diversify the financial base by increasing private and public sources of revenue.
