ENERGY STAR® Homes
Benefits Check List
Before you purchase a new home, take a closer look at the advantages of owning an ENERGY STAR Home:
- Reduced Utility Bills — Spend less on monthly utility bills thanks to the energy-efficient construction and features of ENERGY STAR Homes. Look for as much as 30 percent savings on heating, cooling, and hot water bills.
- Healthier Indoor Air — Breathe easier in ENERGY STAR Homes built to reduce indoor pollutants that contribute to allergies and asthma. Home sealants, foams, tapes, and other tight construction details block dust, pollen, moisture, mold, radon, and carbon monoxide from entering homes. Proper ventilation also protects against the buildup of humidity and unhealthy air.
- Low Maintenance — Enjoy the peace-of-mind of owning a low maintenance home. ENERGY STAR Homes come with durability advantages like tight construction which prevents costly home moisture damages, energy-efficient windows which reduce sun damage to furniture and finishes, and high-quality heating and cooling equipment which lasts longer and performs better than standard equipment.
- Comfortable and Quieter Homes — Feel more comfortable in ENERGY STAR Homes. Tight construction and improved insulation not only keep out excessive heat, cold, and noise, but also ensures consistent temperatures between and across rooms. Properly sized heating and cooling equipment also cycles on-and-off less which removes more humidity and provides uniform comfort.
- Access to Preferred Financing — Apply for additional savings through national and regional lenders across the country offering special ENERGY STAR mortgages. Special features include cash back at closing or reduced interested rates. For a list of financial partners visit www.energystar.gov/homes.
- Help Protect the Environment — Feel good about protecting the environ-
ment by purchasing an ENERGY STAR Home. ENERGY STAR Homes reduce air pollution by consuming less energy than typical homes. About 20 percent of all air pollution results from energy used in homes — that's why purchasing an ENERGY STAR Home is a wise investment for the environment and for you.
Ask your builder for the ENERGY STAR label on your new home.
What is the ENERGY STAR® Logo?
The ENERGY STAR logo helps consumers recognize energy-efficient products that help save money on utility bills. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the ENERGY STAR logo as the symbol for energy efficiency because of the direct link between wasted energy and air pollution. Manufacturers and builders voluntarily display the logo on products and new homes that meet high-efficiency ENERGY STAR guidelines, including heating and cooling equipment, household appliances, TVs, VCRs, residential light fixtures, and new homes.
