Welcome to Elkhorn Valley and Canyon Creek Recreation Sites

The Bureau of Land Management's Elkhorn Valley and Canyon Creek Recreation Sites,. located in the Little North Santiam Recreation Area, offer high quality opportunities for scenic driving, swimming, hiking, camping, picnicking and fishing.

Location: From Salem, drive east on State Hwy 22, turn left on North Fork County Road (approximately 24 miles east of Salem - see map).

Canyon Creek is 7.3 miles and Elkhorn Valley is 8.5 miles up North Fork County Road.

Drive Carefully: Traffic is high during the summer season. Please drive carefully. Be aware of slippery roads during wet and icy weather.

Canyon Creek Day-use Area: Canyon Creek provides easy access to a sandy beach along the Little North Santiam River. Fifteen developed picnic sites, vault restrooms, and a hand pump for potable water are also available.

Elkhorn Valley Campground: Elkhorn Valley offers 24 family campsites, five picnic sites, river access trails, walking trails, vault restrooms, and water spigots for potable water.

Be a good neighbor

Enjoy your visit and help others enjoy theirs too, by following these simple guidelines:

Quiet Hours: Quiet hours at Elkhorn Valley are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Please be considerate of other campers by reducing noise and shutting down generators during this time period.

Fires: Build fires only in the designated metal fire pits provided. Attend your campfire at all times and fully extinguish it when leaving the campsite.

Firewood: Wood gathering is limited to down and dead material one-inch or less in diameter. Firewood is for sale from the camp hosts during posted hours.

Vegetation: Nails, axe cuts and other damage to tree bark exposes trees to disease or insect infestation. Please use ropes to secure tarps or hang other items.

Pets: Pets are allowed, but please keep them leashed (maximum six feet). Please dispose of any pet waste in trash receptacles.

Litter: Do your part to keep the parks clean and litter-free by using the trash receptacles and recycling bins provided.

Parking: Parking is limited during high use periods. Please keep all vehicles on surfaced parking areas.

Bicycles: Bicycles are not allowed on the trails. Please use caution and ride with the flow of traffic. Helmets for both children and adults are recommended.

Campground hosts and other volunteers play an important role in maintaining your parks and providing high quality service to park visitors. If you are interested in helping other people and experiencing a job well done while enjoying a beautiful setting, contact the park staff about the wide variety of volunteer opportunities available for individuals or groups.
