What is Senior Corps?
The National Senior Service Corps (Senior Corps) helps adults over age 55 find volunteer opportunities to solve problems in their communities. Through the Foster Grandparent Program, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and the Senior Companion Program, Senior Corps volunteers prove that seniors are a tremendous resource to society.
Who Serves in SENIOR CORPS Programs?
More than half a million seniors share their life experience, skills, and interests with their communities through one of the three Senior Corps programs. At thousands of sites nationwide, volunteers give from a few hours a week to 40 hours a week. They serve in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin islands. So wherever you live, there's an opportunity for you to get involved.
Which Program is Right for You?
Foster Grandparents
Foster Grandparents help children with special needs at schools, hospitals,
drug treatment centers, and other locations. Whether tutoring younger students,
nurturing sick children, or counseling older kids, Foster Grandparents even
the odds for young people who are struggling.
Foster Grandparents change children's lives by giving them the attention they need.
Senior Companions
Senior Companions give adults support to help they remain in their own homes.
They help with grocery shopping, answering mail, driving to doctors' appointments,
or other daily tasks that are essential to maintaining independence.
Senior Companions also provide short periods of relief to primary caregivers such as family members.
Retired and Senior Volunteers
(RSVP)
RSVP volunteers use their skills and experience to tackle some of the biggest
problems in their communities. They help police protect their neighbors, mentor
and tutor young people, build houses for the homeless, and give their time to
many other activities. RSVP challenges older Americans to answer the call of
their neighbors and help solve serious problems in their communities.
