E-mail Alerts
E-mail Alerts are only available to users with a personal user name an password. This service is part of the University at Buffalo's Science Direct subscription and is available at no additional cost to all SUNY students, faculty, and staff. You can create two types of e-mail Alerts: the Search Alert and the New Issue Alert. Each is described below. Browse ScienceDirect's journals by Subject, Title and Publisher using these links.I. SEARCH ALERTS
Search Alert allows you to save a search request so you will automatically receive new updates via e-mail.
A. Creating a Search Alert
1. To create a Search Alert, conduct a search from one of the search forms.
2. From the Search Results page, click the Save as an E-mail Alert link which appears below the query statement.
3. The Save Search as an Alert page now appears. You will be prompted to identify the Search Alert by completing the following information:
Enter a name for your Search Alert. You may want to use the name of your research or project to help you easily identify the Search Alert.
Enter your e-mail address where notification of the Search Alert results can be sent. Access to the Search Alert results is limited to the person who created the search Alert. Sending the Search Alert to another party via e-mail is not a supported function of ScienceDirect.
From the frequency drop-down list, select the regularity in which you want the Search Alert to run. The Inactive selection can be used to save the search request as a Search Alert, and temporarily pause any execution of the search. (The Inactive selection can be removed via the Modify Alert page at any time.)
Click the button to save the Search Alert and the associated information and return to the Search Results page where you can review the search results. (Your confirmation of the saved Search Alert appears at the top of the page.)
B. Viewing Results
An e-mail notification will be sent to you only when new articles have been found. You can click on the URL within the e-mail message to access your results for this Search Alert. Several options appear as links below each Search Alert listing on the Alerts page:
Most Recent Results
Displays the most recent results of a specific Search Alert. Accessible for 30 days from the time of their retrieval; however, the most recent results will remain available after 30 days until the Search Alert is deleted.
Archive
Displays a list of the previous Alert results. Accessible for 30 days from the time of their retrieval.
Modify
Changes the name of the Search Alert, the e-mail address, and/or the frequency with which the Search Alert is executed.
Delete
Click this link to discontinue the search function for a specific Search Alert and delete the archive listing of that Search Alert's results. This does not delete the search request from your saved queries listing (or recall search page).
C. Searching the Alert Archive
Click the Archive link on the Alerts page. Each listing shows the date of the results and the associated document counts. To review the results for a specific date, click on the date/document count link. Results remain in your Alert archive for only 30 days; however, the most recent results will remain available after 30 days, until deleted.
D. Modifying the Search Alert
Click the Modify link on the Alerts.
Modify any or all of the identification fields (Name of Alert, E-mai address, and Frequency) with the appropriate information. Access is limited to the person who created the Alert. Sending the Alert to another party via e-mail is not a supported function.
Click the button to save the modifications to the Search Alert information.
II. NEW ISSUE ALERTS
The New Issue Alert is a method of requesting an e-mail notice when the new issue of a specific journal is made available in ScienceDirect. The e-mail notification includes a URL (link) to the new issue in ScienceDirect.
A. Requesting a New Issue Alert
All available journals are listed on the New Issue Alerts page. To create your New Issue Alerts list, click on the check-box(es) to the left of the journal title(s) for which you want to be notified of the availability of a new issue.

If an e-mail alert has been requested for this journal, the Exclude this journal link will appear. To discontinue the receipt of the new issue alerts for this journal, click the Exclude this journal link.
