Access to diversity of literature on the Left. Political, economic, social, and culturally engaged scholarship both inside and outside the academy is covered. Also included is material on the labor movement, ecology and the environment, race and ethnicity, social and cultural theory, sociology, art and aesthetics, philosophy, history, education, and law. Historically significant earlier publications such as the works of Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, and others covered.

Indexes 260 sources, many not found in Alterative Press Index or other sources. Well-over 100,000 citations and abstracts, with some full text, cover scholarly journals, radical periodicals, books, book reviews, newsletters, and internet documents. Links are provided to material freely available on the Web and to websites.

Some older material is covered, but coverage usually begins with 1982.
