"Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons"
May 1, 2008 through July 28, 2008

On loan from the National Library of Medicine, "Opening Doors "celebrates the contributions of African American academic surgeons to medicine and medical education. It tells the stories of four pioneering African American surgeons and educators who exemplify excellence in their fields and believe in continuing the journey of excellence through the education and mentoring of younger physicians and surgeons. "China's Sacred Sites."
April 20, 2008 through May 20, 2008

Color photographs by Dr. Beverly Foit-Albert, UB Dept. of Communication, and Professor Nan Shunxun offer a visual experience of the subtle harmony of Chinese architecture and topography. Temples, cliff structures, dramatic landscapes invoke the philosophical concepts of feng shui and chi. A poignant serenity evolves from the recognition that the continued existence of some of the featured sites is uncertain. Exhibit prepared by the students in the Spring course Communication 447.

"The Rockefeller Foundation: Philanthropy and the Rise of Modern Healthcare"
Exhibit cases, Reference Area, first floor

Traces the support provided by the wealth of John D. Rockefeller for research into areas such as yellow fever and the development of penicillin, and other endeavors such as saving Jewish scientists from Nazi extermination. The exhibit panels showcase the following themes:
