Library Fines Policy
Fines and charges are assessed to encourage the prompt return of library materials. UB students and guest borrowers will be fined for items returned late. All days and hours are counted for fining purposes whether the library is open or closed.
In addition to fines, all borrowers may be subject to replacement charges for non-returned materials.
UB Libraries Fines Schedule
Non-Reserve Materials:
Fines for non-reserve materials circulating longer than seven days
Non-reserve materials circulating longer than seven days accrue fines at a rate of $0.50 per day/per item for a maximum of $10 per item. Fines for the late return of recalled materials accrue at the same rate.Fines for non-reserve materials circulating seven days or less
Non-reserve materials circulating from one to seven days accrue fines at $5 per day per item. The maximum fine is $20 per item.For hour materials, fines accrue at $0.05 per minute per item; $3 per hour. The maximum fine is $20 per item.
Reserve Materials:
Fines for course reserve materials accrue at the following rate:
- For hourly materials, $0.05 per minute per item; $3 per hour. The maximum fine is $20 per item.
- For one to seven day materials, fines accrue at $5 per day per item. The maximum fine is $20 per item.
