Paying Library Fines and Charges
If you fail to return items by the due date:
- You may not be able to borrow items from any of the Libraries until the loan has been discharged from your record.
- You may be liable for fines up to $20 per item as well as replacement costs for unreturned items. Fines are imposed immediately on student and guest borrowers for the late return of any items. There are different fine rates for different categories of materials.
You have four options for paying fines and book replacement charges: at the Libraries Billing Office, at Library Payment Drop Boxes, by Mail or by Telephone.
At the Library Billing Office
The Billing Office is located on the first floor of the Capen Libraries:

Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Payment for fines may be in cash, money order or check (payable to University at Buffalo), credit card (Mastercard,VISA, Discover), and Campus Cash.
At the Library Payment Drop Boxes
Drop boxes are located near the main entrances of the following Libraries:
North Campus:
- Law Library, O'Brian Hall
- Lockwood Memorial Library
- Undergraduate Library, Capen Hall
South Campus
- Health Sciences Library, Abbott Hall
Payment for fines may be in cash, money order or check (payable to University at Buffalo), credit card (Mastercard,VISA, Discover), and Campus Cash.
