Saving Computer Files in the UB Libraries

Compact Discs (D drive)

  1. Locate or create the document to be saved
  2. Insert the compact disc (CD) into the drive (press the button to open and close the CD tray)
  3. f you are using a database or other program that contains a Save feature, use that command
  4. Click File > Save and scroll the Save-In box
  5. Name your file. Click Save
  6. Continue adding items in this manner
  7. A bubble will appear on the bottom of your screen indicating: You have files waiting to be written to the CD, to see the files now click this balloon
  8. To view files waiting to be written to CD, click the balloon
  9. At the new display, note the link at left side Write these files to CD. Click link to activate the CD Writing Wizard

Follow the instructions given by the Wizard to complete the download.

 

Flash or Jump Drives, USB keys (E drive)

  1. Locate or create the document to be saved
  2. Insert your USB device into the external port.
  3. If you are using a database or other program that contains a Save feature, use that command
  4. Click File > Save as and scroll the Save In box to Drive (E:). (The USB device must be inserted in order for Drive (E:) to display as an option.)
  5. Name your file. Click Save
  6. To remove your USB device: Double-click the Remove Hardware icon located in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen)
  7. A window containing a list of the USB devices will appear. Follow instructions to safely remove your storage device.
UBFS - UB File Space (S drive) 
  1. Locate the item to be saved.
  2. Click File > Save As *
  3. Select My Computer > S Drive > Windows > NT

*If the item you wish to save is a PDF, use the Save a Copy icon.

Floppy Drives

Library and Cybrary computers do not have internal Floppy drives. Portable Floppy disc drives are available in the libraries. Faculty, staff and students can check out the drives for 24 hours from the circulation desks located in Capen, Lockwood, HSL, Music, APL, and the Koren AV Center in the Law Library.

Send a file as an attachment

Email programs each work a little differently. The process for UBmail (Simple interface) is as follows:

  1. Select Compose for a new message.
  2. Enter address of recipient
  3. On the side bar, click on the word Attachments.
  4. Identify your file from the browse feature which will automatically open.
  5. Click Attach File.
  6. Click Done.
  7. Send the message.
