University at Buffalo, State University of New York

Attention: We have reached our quota for student participants for this year. The information below is for the use of students already registered to work the workshop.

Registered Students: Please Print This Page Out for Future Reference!

Our summer workshop trains college science faculty from around the country to teach using case studies. During these sessions, workshop faculty will teach a case study. Your job is to participate in the case study along with the other students and then critique the faculty’s teaching methods and the case study.

WHEN:Thursday, May 21 & Friday, May 22, 2009
8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. each day (with a lunch break on your own)
You must be available to work both days.
WHAT: Your duties will be to observe and participate in class sessions where college faculty will teach a science topic using a case study—a real or fictional story that illustrates the topic. Students should come prepared to engage in the case study activities and to provide written and verbal feedback after each session on the case material and on the teaching methods of individual teachers. There won’t be a test on the material, but you will be expected to participate and to offer your opinion concerning the classroom activities.
WHO: Freshmen and sophomores only, currently attending the University at Buffalo. You must have a Social Security Number to participate.
HOW MUCH:You will earn $100 (minus taxes, if applicable) for both days. You will be required to sign in each day you work. Failure to do so will result in you not getting paid.
WHERE: Clemens 120 (North Campus). We will email you instructions on where to report for the first day of work. Your start time will be 8:30 a.m. Your work day will end by around 4:30 p.m. You will be allowed a lunch break each day. You may bring a bag lunch or buy your lunch on campus. It is important that you report back on time after your lunch break.
PLEASE REMEMBER: When you sign up, you are making a commitment to us to work BOTH of the days indicated. We will be counting on you!
