A nationally recognized scientist, visionary educator, administrator and author, Furnas also served as United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Development from 1956-1957.

Halpern was a lawyer, New York State Supreme Court judge, and member of the faculty of the University of Buffalo Law School (Acting Dean, 1943-1946 and 1952-1954; and Dean, 1946-1947).

Bound memorial volume (174 leaves) compiled by Peter H. Hare. Contains texts of tributes made by family and friends at a memorial celebration of the life of Daphne Hare or sent in remembrance of her. Includes photograph (8 x 11) bound in volume.

Daphne Joan Kean Hare was on the faculty of the departments of Medicine and Biophysical Sciences in the School of Medicine and Biophysical Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo before serving as director of the Medical/Dental Division of the United States Veterans Administration.

Yeracaris Hospital Study Collection, circa 1960-1966 -- 22/3F/820
Collection contains papers relating to the Grosof, Gross, and Yeracaris hospital study later compiled into Social Causes of Labor Turnover in Modern Hospitals, published by the University of Buffalo Department of Sociology in 1966. Papers include drafts, projects, general background, correspondence, hospital surveys, interviews, statistics, demographic and census data. Hospitals examined include Beth-El, Buffalo General, Millard Fillmore, Our Lady of Victory and South Buffalo Mercy.
