Historical Note

The June 4 Memorial Fund was initiated in response to the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre in Beijing, China. As an independent, non-profit student/faculty organization, its purpose was to promote human rights for Chinese people living inside and outside of China. During the group's existence, they brought speakers to the University at Buffalo, held an annual commemorative event, and worked to advance public awareness of civil rights issues.

Scope and Content Note

The collection includes administrative information, event planning, promotion and ephemera, as well as affiliate information and publications.

Scope and content: Series includes documentation of events organized and attended by members of group. Twelve of the posters used during various commemorative events had water damage due to rain. The images from these posters were lifted and bound separately for preservation purposes.
