Life in the Dorms - 1970s

In 1972, suite-style dorms were all the rage. The plan was that the Govenor's Complex, the first housing built on the new North Campus, would be "long on privacy and short on crowding" ("The H-Shaped Dormitory," The Reporter, October 28, 1971).

Each suite had four bedrooms (with two students to each room) with a common bathroom and lounge. The dormitory complex also featured many large courtyards; lounge areas and dining facilities were located in each wing. The buildings have extra thick walls in order to dull some of the noise associated with communal living.
