Life in the Dorms - by 2001

By 2001 the University was moving towards apartment-style dorms for both graduate and undergraduate students. The idea was for students to enjoy the independence of being in an apartment setting with all the convenience of being on campus. Completed in August 2001 (with additions completed in November 2002), Flint Village is an example of an apartment-style dorm on the North Campus. The 536-bed facility offers air conditioned, fully furnished apartments. The kitchens are outfitted with all appliances including dishwasher, microwave and garbage disposal while the bedrooms and living rooms are all wired for telephone, cable, and Ethernet. With convenient parking, laundry facilities in common areas and a community building with television, lounge chairs and a pool table, Flint Village is an example of the University's dedication to providing students with a high quality of student life. And among its many fine points, Flint Village is only a short walk from the main "spine" of campus.
