Ivy Day - Senior Week

When Samuel P. Capen was sworn in as Chancellor in 1922, many traditions were established that promoted the academic achievements of the University of Buffalo. One of those traditions was Ivy Day, established in 1923. Seniors were invited to plant ivy along Hayes Hall as a symbol of their contributions to the academic reputation of UB.

During the first week in May members of the Senior Class wear caps and gowns to their classes, and such events as Rose Day, Ivy Day, the Senior Luncheon, and the Senior Tea take place (from the 1948-1949 Student Handbook).
