Basic Guidelines
Central Technical Services operates between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
The maximum number of hours that can be worked in one day is 10.
The total number of hours worked in a week cannot exceed 40. The total number of hours worked in a pay period cannot exceed 75.
The staff member and the supervisor agree on an established schedule. The staff member follows that schedule on a regular basis unless the staff member and the supervisor have agreed to a change in that schedule.
The timesheet is an accurate reflection of time worked, charged, or covered by an observed holiday.
Vacation and Sick Leave
If the staff member is absent due to vacation, use of personal leave or holiday comp time, or is ill, he or she charges the number of hours that he or she was scheduled to work up to a maximum of 10 hours.
Holidays
The procedure for holidays is dictated by guidelines in the New York State Dept. of Civil Service. Attendance and Leave Manual. These guidelines state that for any holiday an employee can be paid for a maximum of 7.5 hours of holiday pay, earn a maximum of 7.5 hours of holiday compensatory time, or can cover a maximum of 7.5 hours when absent on a holiday. It must also be remembered that all time for classified staff is calculated in hours, not days.
If we are open on the holiday and the staff member works, the total number of hours worked up to a maximum of ten is reflected on the timesheet as follows. If staff member's established option is holiday pay, the staff member is credited with a maximum of 7.5 hours of holiday pay. For time worked beyond 7.5 hours, normal pay applies. If the established option is compensatory time, the staff member is credited with a maximum of 7.5 hours of holiday compensatory time. Alternatively, the staff member can work only 7.5 hours and charge the difference, up to a maximum of 2.5 hours on the staff member's weekday pass day or work that number of hours on the pass day. This alternate approach may be required for those pay periods in which there are two affected holidays.
If the staff member takes the holiday, a maximum of 7.5 is covered by the holiday and does not have to be charged. Additional time beyond the 7.5 hours must be covered by use of vacation or personal time.
