Bibliographic Record Changes
Name Headings
- Sign on to your Email account
- Hold the "alt" key and press the "tab" key. Let
go when you see the window for Program Manager.
- Click on the BISON staff mode icon and logon to BISON.
- Return to your email by hitting "alt" and "tab"
again.
- View bib. chg. message in your email.
- Using the mouse, highlight the heading that needs to be changed.
- Click on "edit."
- Click on "copy."
- Return to BISON by hitting "alt" and "tab" again.
- Prepare to search the heading by pressing the "shift" and
"F4" keys and then the "enter" key to get the previous
search.
- Move cursor to the right of the equal sign and erase the old
information by hitting the page down key.
- Click on the Clipboard button on the tool bar to paste the heading
needing correction into the search command and hit "enter".
- Go into the authority record (usually 1 in the index) to copy the
correct heading in the 1xx field.
- Using the mouse, highlight the heading and copy it by hitting the
"2 sheets to the wind" button on the tool bar.
- Hit the "F1" key to go into the next record, which should be
a bibliographical record and find the heading needing to be corrected.
- If necessary, remove the zero from the indicator field between the
colons by hitting the "spacebar." Make sure that you do not
remove the zero if the heading is for a title or a subject. In other
words, you most likely will remove the zero for any 1XX or 7XX heading
EXCEPT 130, 730, or 740.
- Paste the correct heading in the bib. rec. by clicking on the
Clipboard button on the tool bar.
- If there is no other punctuation at the end of the field (like a
hyphen or a parenthesis), type a period at the end of the field.
- Repeat steps 15-18 until you have fixed all the incorrect
bibliographic records.
- Press the "F4" key to go to the Index.
- Type "F1" and the number next to the heading in the
"search under" field (usually 1) to make sure that all the
bibliographic records have been transferred to the correct place.
- Start on a new heading by returning to your email. Repeat steps 6-21.
- When you have finished all the headings in an email message, type
"R" for reply.
- The PINE program will ask you whether to "include the original
message" -- Answer "y"
- Use the "down arrow" to go to the "cc:" field and
type in "ulcreg" and press "enter."
- Use the "down arrow" to go down below the "Message
Line" and type a message that you've completed the bib. changes and
sign your name.
- To send the message, hold down the "control" key and press
"x"
- Answer "y" to the prompt "send message."
- Delete the message from your mail by typing "D."
- Quit PINE by typing "q".
- Exit "HostPresenter"
- Toggle to BISON by holding the "alt" key and pressing the
"tab" key.
- Sign off BISON by hitting the "clear" key (gray plus key by
the number pad) twice.
- Type "cssf logoff"
- Click on the second button from the left on the tool bar -- the one
with a right arrow at the top to close the terminal session
- Click on the "terminate" button in the window that appears
in the middle of the screen.
