Verifying Double Cutter P Numbers
- Does the record have subject headings? (6XX)
If NO subject headings: "copy" call number from 050 and check main entry in BISON (fi jx …)
(No subject headings means that it’s a work of fiction and the author (100 field) is the entry you want to verify)
If YES: go to Question 2.
- Is the 1st subject heading tagged 600?
If NO: OK to catalog.
If YES: go to Question 3.
- Does it have "in fiction, drama, poetry, etc.," "in literature," "fiction," or "poetry" as a sub heading?
If YES: "copy" call number from 050 and check main entry (100) in BISON
(fi jx …)
If NO: "copy" call number from 050 and check personal name (600) in BISON
(fi jx …)
Select 1st GL record (not establishing heading)
***IMPORTANT***:
If author is in BISON for the 1st time, do a call number search up to the 1st cutter (fi cl …).
If not used by another author, OK to catalog.
If used by another author, give to Sue (call number conflict).
- Is call number in the same class? (i.e. PR, PS …)
If NO: go to next GL record.
If YES: go to Question 5.
- Is the base call number (up to and including 1st cutter) the same?
If YES: OK to catalog.
If NO: check BIBL and go to Question 6.
- Are there subject headings on the record (6XX)?
If NO: give to Sue (call number conflict)
If YES: go to Question 7.
- Does the 1st subject heading match the name you’re searching?
If YES: give to Sue (call number conflict)
If NO: go to next GL record in BISON and return to Question 4.
