Overlaying a Bison Record with an OCLC Record

• In CatMe, after logging on in BUF, check that the correct library is chosen for the export destination. Under Tools, click on Options. In the Options window, click on Export. If the destination is General Libraries, the GL should be highlighted. If the destination is Music, ML should be highlighted; if Poetry, highlight PL. Change as necessary. Click OK.


• Check that the OCLC number is the same on the Bison record. If not, on the OCLC record, right click on the record (on empty space) and click on Copy control number. This can also be found on the Edit drop-down menu.


• On the Bison record, put the cursor on the first number after "ocm" in the (035) field, and right click on the mouse to paste the OCLC number. Save this <Enter>. If there is no OCLC number on the Bison record (i.e. it was a brief record), tab to the end of the BIBL screen (or from home, [shift][tab]), type 035::(OCoLC)ocm, and paste the OCLC number. Save <Enter>.


• Clear the Bison record in order for it to be overlayed.


• In CatMe, on the desired record, press the F5 key on the keyboard. A box will open, saying the record has been successfully passed. Click OK to close.


• Retrieve the Bison record. There may be a "ghost" call number in the next copy holdings line (i.e. 002) on the HLDG screen. Erase to end of field and <Enter>.


• Change the Order Code on the O/P/R, if appropriate.


• Receive as usual for the type of record it now is (i.e. A, B...).
