Label Information and Instructions
In order to use the inclusion checker/label program, you need
to have the following:
- Have the label programs downloaded
- Have your current inclusion file downloaded and prepared
- Download the shipping list you want to have processed
This is how you do it:
- Create a directory called docs, like this:
- C:\>md docs
- Download the following programs to the docs directory:
NOTE: If you downloaded these programs prior to January 20,
1997, please download these newer versions. Please save these files
with the names as displayed.
First you need to download your item selection list from the Web,
then you run the program to put it in the right format, edit it
a bit more, and that's it. Here is how to do it:
- You need to save your inclusion list from the web to the
docs directory using the name temp.txt.
and follow the instructions for option 1. Selections, in rows and
columns
- Save it to c:\docs\temp.txt.
- Once the file temp.txt is in your docs directory, get
into your docs directory and run the program that fixes
the format, like this:
c:\docs>fixitem
You could also run it
from windows if you'd prefer, by selecting run in file manager
and running fixitem.exe in the docs directory.
- Running fixitem has created a file in docs called myitems.txt,
and those are your current item selections. The file just
needs a bit more cleanup. Edit the file, like this:
c:\docs>edit myitems.txt
Go to the bottom of the file and delete the few lines
at the end that are not item numbers. When you are through, click
of FILE in the top left corner (or press Alt/F), then click on
SAVE (or Alt/S). This saves the changes. To get out, click on
FILEagain, then EXIT (or Alt/X). You might want to do this every
quarter, as your inclusions change. You can also edit the file
myitems.txt whenever you make a change to your profile.
- Get on the World Wide Web
- Open the URL: http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/cts/acq/gpo/
- Select Paper, Electronic, or Separate in the Label section
of the Shipping List Navigator box.
- Select the shipping list you want.
- Save it as c:\docs\sudoc.txt. If/when asked if you
want to overwrite the existing file with that name, say yes.
How to Run the Program
- Be sure your printer is online and loaded with labels. Thin
Labels (3 1/2" x 7/16) work well.
- Get into the docs directory, like this:
C:\>cd\docs
- Enter the word docs
- Follow the instructions.
- When the file of SuDoc numbers appears, delete the word EXCLUDED
by using the delete key (Ctrl/Y), then save the file and exit.
