Is the paper brittle?
Brittle paper is generally yellowed and flakes, cracks, or breaks off when folded.
How are the pages attached?
Does the book need some support to stand on the shelf?
Side stapled pamphlets are generally the same size as photocopy paper (8.5 x 11 inches) and usually about 1/4 inch in thickness. Such pamphlets cannot stand on the shelf without the support provided by binding.

The size and thickness of a book often determine what type of support it needs to be able to stand on a shelf. Most pamphlets in a single centerfold format can be bound in-house with purchased pamphlet binders.
