CANADIAN DOCUMENTS: PROCEDURES
The following procedures are being established for Canadian Documents
which are housed in the Canadian Documents Collection in Lockwood.
These procedures should facilitate the processing of this material.
- No material will be released with a brief record and an action
date.
- Upon receipt, new serial titles including title changes, will be
sent to the Serials Cataloging Section of the Cataloging Department
with an OCLC record in BISON or a brief BISON record created by the
Acquisitions Department.
- Monographs for which there is National Library of Canada or usable
member copy will be completed by the Bibliographic Control Section
of the Acquisitions Department.
- Monographs for which there is member copy which lacks subject
headings will be integrated into the existing current monographic
backlog and released and processed like other member copy
Add: 730: :MEMBCOPY CAN YR MO
- For monographs for which there is no OCLC record, an in-process
record will be created in BISON and the item will be integrated
into the existing monographic backlog and released and processed
like other no copy material.
Add: 730: :NOCOPY CAN YR MO
- All in-process records in BISON will be coded 1, 2, or 3 I with a
location code of lod and subfield k of CAN.
- No material which could otherwise be released or fully cataloged
will be delayed because of a lack of Canadian documents
classification number. When a number is not available on the item
or in the OCLC record, a number will be assigned locally by the
staff member who completes the record. A locally-assigned number
should never be made part of an original input into OCLC, however.
