Start the following
procedures approximately 15 minutes before closing:
- Prepare outgoing
U.S. mail:
- Band together
U.S. mail according to the slots:
- Stamped
mail
- Mail
with 142- zip code
- Other
U.S. mail
- International
mail under 16 oz. (1 lb.)
- Place all
first class mail in a white mail bin.
It must be sepate from “library rate” mail.
- Place international
mail 16 oz. and over in a separate white mail bin.
Make sure each package has the proper completed customs
labels and appropriate markings (air mail, letter post, etc.)
A completed “Target Mail” sheet should also be attached
to each item. All of these items may then be placed in a separate
white bin.
- Place all
bins in the outgoing mail bucket.
- Close the postal
meter:
- Record the
meter register numbers in the log book
- Turn the
meter off and lock the imprint machine.
- Turn off
the postal scale.
- Put all
keys in their proper places.
- Cover the
meter.
- Power down the
computer. Turn off the CPU, monitor and the power strip.
- Turn off all
other machines, any fans, radios, heaters, etc.
- Close the overhead
garage door and turn off the light.
- Lock the dock
door. See Joy for the location of the keys.
- Lock the door
leading to the extra supply room (where the outgoing mail bucket and
UPS packages are stored.) Be
sure that the computer and heat plate in this room are turned off.
Check to see that the ceiling heater is also turned off. The switch
is on the loading dock.
- Lock the door
leading from the dock entrance to the mailroom. It has a slam lock
(small button on the side.)
- Lock the double
doors leading to Acquisitions. Do not leave any dolleys or carts of
outgoing ILL materials outside the mailroom (i.e. LandService bins).
They should remain in the mailroom. Turn off all lights and close
the remaining doors behind you.
