Additions to Personal Names Task Force
The Additions to Personal Names Task Force is charged with preparing a report to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of adding a word or phrase denoting occupation to break a conflict between otherwise identical name headings. Currently this option is available in AACR2 22.19A1 but is restricted by an LCRI to pre-20th century persons and musicians. The task force will decide whether extending this option would be desirable, and whether it should be extended to use with all names or only certain categories (e.g. moving image material as well as music/sound recordings). The group's recommendation, whether approached through an LCRI or amendment to AACR2, will be circulated for review by other related cataloging groups prior to final submission at the ALA annual meeting in Atlanta in 2002.
