THREE-DIMENSIONAL ARTEFACTS AND REALIA

Chapter 10 of AACR2 covers three-dimensional objects of all kinds that do not fall under any other chapter of AACR2. This includes items from the GMD list:
art original
art reproduction
diorama
game
model
microscope slide
realia
toy
The chief source of information for these materials is the entire item together with any container and any accompanying material.

Rules that differ from other chapters:

10.lFl. Transcribe statements relating to persons or bodies responsible for the creation of the item, or for its display or selection ...

10.4C2. Do not record a place of publication, distribution, etc., for a naturally occurring object (other than one mounted for viewing or packaged for presentation) or for an artefact not intended primarily for communication. Do not record s.l. in such a case.
10.4D2. Do not record the name of a publisher, distributor, etc., ...
10.4 F2. In the case of naturally occurring objects... do not give a date. In the case of artefacts not intended primarily for communication, give the date of manufacture.

10.4G. Place of manufacture, name of manufacturer, date of manufacture.

260 Place of distribution : $b Name of distributor, $c Date of distribution $e (Place of manufacture: $f Name of manufacturer, $g Date of manufacture).

10.5Bl. If none of these terms is appropriate, give the specific name of the item or the names of the parts of the item as concisely as possible.
10.5B2. ... various pieces

10.5Cl. When appropriate, give the material(s) of which the object is made...
10.5C2. ...give col. for multicoloured objects, or name the colour(s) of the object if it is in one or two colours, or give b&w for black and white objects.

10.5Dl. dimensions in centimetres to the next whole centimetre up... height x width x depth.
10.5D2. If the object is in a container, name the container and give its dimensions either after the dimensions of the object or as the only dimensions.

Notes are very important.


Coding and tagging:

There is no 007 field for any of these materials.
Type "r" is used for all materials cataloged under these rules.
