This information was taken from the online event planner for the 2003 ALA Annual Conference <http://planner.ala.org/index_main.asp>. Please confirm all dates, times and locations on the final Conference program. This list is not intended to be comprehensive; OLAC meetings and the major cataloging meetings are listed, as well as AV meetings of long-standing or current popular interest. The size and broad scope of this list is a reflection of the increasing interest of OLAC members in database enrichment activities, demonstrated most materially by the growing membership in the NACO-AV Funnel Project. A few workshops requiring registration are listed as well; although they may well be full at this late date, it could yet be worth trying if interested.
Note that meetings are mostly entered by their direct names (task force, committee, subcommittee or other group name), not by their supporting organization (which is generally indicated parenthetically), unless the supporting organization is integral to the name. Please also note that this list will be updated on the OLAC Website until the Conference begins. If you have information on other meetings of interest or have information about the content of any of the meetings listed, please contact Sue Neumeister <neumeist@buffalo.edu> so she can add that information to the Website.

A number of models have the potential to influence the future development of information standards within the library community. Pre-eminent among these models is the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), a product of study by the International Federation of Library Associations and institutions, and the related Logical Structure of AACR2. The program is intended to acquaint technical services professionals, including the catalogers and systems librarians, with the implications of these models for cataloging rules, and to present MARC formats along with other emerging international standards for electronic technologies.Electronic Resources Discussion Group (ALCTS)

"ISBDs: International Standard Bibliographic Descriptions--Do We Still Need Them?"
Sunday, 6/22, 1:30-3:30
Delta Chelsea - Churchill BR
This ALCTS program celebrates the ISBDs which have served for over 30 years as the basis for national and international cataloging codes. Through their provisions covering the full array of library resources, libraries have been able to achieve compatible descriptive cataloging worldwide, which has aided the global exchange of bibliographic records. Now the ISBDs are confronting new challenges including competing metadata standards, new concepts such as "FRBR," and the revision of several chapters in Part I of AACR2. Where do the ISBDs fit in this picture? This program explains why the ISBDs are relevant and still needed.MARBI (3 meetings)
Four experts will address the issues: John D. Byrum, Jr (LC).; Glenn Patton (OCLC); Olivia Madison (Iowa State University); Lynne C. Howarth (University of Toronto)
The program is co-sponsored by the ALCTS Cataloging and Classification Section and the ALCTS Networked Resources & Metadata Committee, with generous support from K. G. Saur.
