FROM THE EDITOR
Jain Fletcher

During even-numbered years, OLAC members' thoughts turn to the OLAC Conference. Of course, it is in the odd-numbered years that work for the Conference actually begins, when the Conference Committee first comes together, then becomes busy. Still, the hard work of the Conference Committee becomes mostly apparent to OLAC members in the even-numbered years, when plans for the upcoming event start being announced on the OLAC List and in the Newsletter. By the time the June Newsletter appears, OLAC members should be noticing that the predominant theme in the issue is the upcoming OLAC Conference. Well, it is June and the longest article in this issue by far is the preview of the Conference program and events, sent by Marc Richard and Lisa O’Hara, the Conference Co-Chairs. There is also a call for Conference reporters from our Conference Reports Editor, Jan Mayo. Moreover, stapled into the center of the print version, in the well-done design of the Conference Committee, is a copy of the registration form. Please note that there are two versions--one for attendees from Canada and the other for attendees from the United States and other countries.

The issue is not wholly devoted to the Conference, however. For one, our President, Cathy Gerhart, has written a thought-provoking and informative column, in which, among other things, she announces the winners of the recent OLAC election. Also, Kevin Furniss has reported on the OCLC Members Council meeting in February. And Barbara Vaughn has even managed to send in a few announcements not related to the Conference.

The shortest column of all is Nancy Olson's, where she announces her retirement from her participation in these regular installments. We will all certainly miss Nancy's singularly expert advice in this highly-valued feature of the Newsletter! However, considering all that Nancy has been (she is OLAC's founder) and done (everything!) for this organization, there is every reason to hope that we will continue hearing from her. More than anyone we can think of, Nancy has long since earned a break from a regularly-imposed deadline!
