After querying the units as to their preference for a procedure to handle volume holdings records for serials and sets which are issued as parts of series which are classed together under a common call number, we will use the approach described below:
Copy Holdings Record
Call number plus that volume or issue number of the series which
corresponds to the first volume or issue of the serial or set, plus
'etc.'
Volume or issue number of the volume or issue of the serial or set plus
equal sign plus call number and volume or issue number of the series
which corresponds to the volume or issue number of the serial or set.
Each volume or issue of the serial or set is listed on a separate line.
The enum/chron contains the volume or issue number of the series. There
is no indication at the Item record level of the volume or Issue number
of the serial or set.
Created 2/16/96
Example: $bPGI3 $c.M6 no.20, etc.
$bBR45 $c.T4 Bd.73, etc.
Volume Holdings Record
Example: no.l=HD9698.A1I6 no.96
no.2=HD969B.A1l6 no.117
v.1(1961)=LB30l.A2 no.6
v.2(1962)=LB30l.A2 no.13
1982=PG13.M46 no.20
1983=PG13.M46 no.23
Item Record
Example: no.20
no.96
With the implementation of this approach the current use of
the copy level code "hs:SN" should be eliminated.
