RECYCLING IN THE PRESERVATION DIVISION
|
|
- Every desk should have a small blue bin for the disposal of recycled paper that will be emptied periodically by the CTS Recycling Team. The blue bins contain signs instructing cleaners to empty only the garbage. You should also have a little black bin for the disposal of trash. The cleaners will empty this container.
- Cardboard should be broken down, taken out to the dock and placed in the gray bins next to the stairs.
- Receptacles for glass, metal, and plastic are located near the staff elevators and restrooms in CTS. Additional receptacles are located by the staff elevators in Lockwood on floors 3, 4 and 5 and in the basement of Lockwood's kitchen area.
- Containers for batteries, CDs, diskettes and ink cartridges are also located near the staff elevators in CTS on the first floor.
- Withdrawn books should be discarded in blue recycle containers located on the dock.
- Withdrawn microfilm and microfiche should be placed in the large yellow bin located in the back storeroom near the elevator. Fiche should be separated from their paper sleeves. Dispose of sleeves in blue recycle bins. Film should be removed from their boxes and unrolled from reels. Place boxes in blue recycle bins and plastic reels in brown recycle bins on the dock.
- In cooperation with the recycling guidelines given by the UB Green Office, the following will apply for the Center for Book Preservation:
Note: For the sake of time and productivity, some of the items that could be recycled will be regarded as trash. Most of these items would have to be individually separated (e.g. cloth from book with part of board attached. Board can be recycled, cloth cannot). |
Of course, there are always exceptions. If your decision is not too time consuming, separate items.
Example: Adhesive Book Cloth - Cloth side goes in the trash. The plastic coated paper side is recycled. We do have two bins at our workstations (Black for "Trash" and Blue for "Recycling") so this should be convenient. The more we practice these procedures the more they will become second nature. |
