Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection
The Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection at
the Health Sciences Library was established as a separate entity
in 1972. It includes more than 12,000 monographs from the nineteenth
century with particular strengths in surgery, obstetrics/gynecology,
dentistry, pharmacology, and oncology, as well as a journal collection
of more than 30,000 volumes. The collection also contains 500
pre-nineteenth century titles.
In 1985, the collection was named for
Robert L. Brown, MD, former Associate Dean of the School of
Medicine, in recognition for his strong support of the Health
Sciences Library for more than twenty-five years.
Special collections housed in the Robert L. Brown History
of Medicine Rare Book Room include the Edgar R. McGuire Historical Medical
Instrument Collection and the Bonnie and Vern Bullough History
of Nursing Collection.

from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
